The Catalina Museum of Art and History presents ANN WEBER: 26 MILES

The Catalina Museum for Art & History presents the exhibition Ann Weber: 26 Miles, on view March 23 through August 4, 2024. This remarkable collection brings to life the journey of Ann Weber’s totemic sculptures as they travel through the San Pedro Channel, weaving a complex narrative reminiscent of the historic ballad of the Four Preps.

Known for her avant-garde approach, Ann Weber uses cardboard to create monumental sculptures. These sculptures serve as metaphors for larger psychological and emotional questions, breathing a second life into repurposed packaging. While Weber’s use of discarded materials serves as a poignant commentary on contemporary consumer culture, her works are also an exploration of the delicate interplay between memory and nostalgia, the vulnerability and resilience of nature, and ultimately the diverse aspects of the human spirit – including joy, isolation, wonder, and inherent potential.

Ann Weber holds a BA in Art History from Purdue University and an MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts, where she studied under the guidance of renowned artist Viola Frey. Weber currently lives and works in San Pedro, near the Port of Los Angeles.

Opening reception: Saturday, March 23, 2024, 6-8 p.m.

Meet artist Ann Weber and explore the exhibition of her monumental sculptures made from reused cardboard. At 7 p.m., Weber will demonstrate how she creates her sculptures using very simple tools and materials: a stapler, a box cutter, scissors, and strips of found corrugated cardboard boxes.

Join in the conversation with other museum members and guests and enjoy wine, beer and other refreshments from the unhosted bar. Admission to this reception is free, but registration is required. Visit the calendar page on CatalinaMuseum.org to register.

Artist talk: Saturday, July 27, 2024, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

On July 27th from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Weber will host an artist talk in which she will discuss her 50-year artistic career, which has spanned from her work as a potter in upstate New York to her life in Los Angeles (San Pedro, to be precise), and all the adventures she has had along the way.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and closed Monday. For more information about the Catalina Museum for Art & History, visit CatalinaMuseum.org.
