The story of an unfaithful wife after her husband donated his kidney goes viral

Numerous commenters on Reddit were quick to comment on a story that was circulating online about a man who donated a kidney to his wife – only to find out that she had cheated on him years earlier.

In a now-deleted post on Tuesday, August 13, the user explained that he was a 30-year-old man who had donated one of his kidneys to his 30-year-old wife of six years, and that a month after the transplant, her wife felt compelled to confess to him that she had been unfaithful and had a one-night stand.

“She said she couldn’t keep it to herself anymore, especially after the huge sacrifice I made,” the Reddit user wrote. “She seemed extremely remorseful and I believed her that it was a one-time thing.”

But the man was “extremely desperate,” “frustrated” and “extremely angry” – and then demanded that his wife call her family and confess to them that she had cheated on her husband, the post says.

“All my pent up emotions were boiling over and I said a lot of horrible things to my wife,” the Reddit user wrote. “I wanted my wife to say something but she just didn’t say anything and cried and that made me even angrier.”

According to the post, the husband also told his wife that if she got emotional about the situation, she should “not cry when our son is around and do that alone in the bathroom or somewhere else.”

The user asked his online community “AITAH,” which translates to “Am I the asshole here,” wondering if his marriage could survive.

More than 3,000 commenters weighed in on his situation and expressed their opinions on how the relationship was described in the post – with some not buying the user’s opinion.

“I swear this twist sounds like something out of a drama series. Next episode: husband demands right to return kidney,” wrote another user.

“Is that you, OP (original poster)?” added another, adding a link to a 2009 article in the National review in which a man treaded the same ground and attempted to sue his soon-to-be ex-wife to reclaim his kidney.

Another commentator pointed out the unlikely presumption of the story, starting with the fact that the man and woman were perfectly suited for the transplant.

According to the National Kidney Foundation, the chances of a match are highest with siblings: the chance of an “exact match” is 25% and the chance of a “half match” is 50%. However, with unrelated donors, the chances of a match are much lower.

One user sang the premise: “On Chili’s theme: I want my kidney, kidney, kidney back.”
