The New York Knicks announced on Wednesday that they have re-signed forward Jacob Toppin for the 2024-25 season.
Toppin, the younger brother of former Knicks first-round pick and current Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin, played nine games for the Knicks last season and 25 games for the team’s G-League affiliate in Westchester.
Toppin, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward from Kentucky, went undrafted in 2023 and signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Knicks that was converted to a two-way deal in October. He flashed his potential in the G League, averaging 19.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the Westchester-based team.
Toppin led the Westchester Knicks to the 2023 G League Showcase Cup Tournament championship, scoring 23 points in a win over the Indiana Mad Ants. He also participated in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, finishing in third place.
The Knicks have had a stellar offseason in which they have built a roster that can compete for NBA championships in the coming years. New York acquired star Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets and re-signed swingman OG Anunoby to a max contract, giving the team one of the best defensive wing duos in the league.
New York also signed star point guard Jalen Brunson to a contract extension, cementing his position as the franchise’s flagship after he led the team to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the second consecutive year. In the 2024 draft, the team acquired highly touted point guard Tyler Kolek in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Toppin hopes for more playing time with the Knicks, who want to fight for the NBA title in the 2024/25 season.
