Turn the tables with K.99 “Big Frank”

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Just last week, the Texas Radio Hall of Fame announced its 2024 inductees. KRIS 6 NEWS reporter Naidy Escobar caught up with Franklin Edwards, also known as Big Frank in the Coastal Bend.

He is the host of the “Big Frank Morning Show” on K 99 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“I started doing this back in college in Kingsville; I did it for a couple of years, so it’s been about 30 years now,” he said.

His voice has been heard every morning from thousands of loudspeakers for 30 years. He said he has been fascinated by radio since he was a child.

“Man, what a blessing! When I was a little boy, I didn’t want to do anything else. I listened to the radio all night. My parents were mad at me,” he said with a big smile.

Big Frank remembers going to his grandmother’s house and listening to AM radio, which had very little interference in those days. He could hear stations from Nashville to Shreveport and even Dallas, and he thought that was pretty cool.

This year, the Texas Radio Hall of Fame is honoring Big Frank and will induct him this fall.

“If people weren’t driving around in their cars or listening at the refineries or wherever, I wouldn’t be here. So I’m eternally grateful to anyone in the Corpus Christi area who listens to me,” he said.

Big Frank is honored by the recognition from his peers and words cannot describe how blessed he feels to receive the support from his loved ones and community.

Twenty individuals will be honored at the Texas Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, November 2nd.
