Amid the drama of 2024 — election thrills and chills, Olympic performances and the day-to-day chaos we call life — we’re taking a moment to celebrate something that locals are just as fascinated by: more than six decades of breaking news, toasting local talent and generally trying to understand Marin’s charming idiosyncrasies.

This year we have seen political theater worthy of a soap opera and global spectacles that have kept us glued to our screens. The loss of Cyra McFadden, the brilliant satirist behind our critically acclaimed play on ’70s fiction, The seriesreminded us of the rich and humorous heritage of this newspaper and suggests a path we might consider in the future.

Leading this beloved Marin institution is one of my greatest honors—or career faux pas. I don’t know, the jury is still out. But it’s our readers who really make it special… and then make me special with their, um, very creative letters to the editor. The community’s commitment, passion, and support make the Pacific Sun and Marin County the best. Here’s to another year of celebrating the magic and madness of Marin.
