Singer Elle King spoke openly about her childhood and her relationship with her father, former “SNL” actor Rob Schneider.
On Monday, King Bunnie XO told the podcast “Dumb Blonde” that she had spent the summer at a weight-loss camp at Schneider’s urging.
“I was a really, really heavy kid,” the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer explained. “My dad sent me to fat camp. It was hard and I got in trouble for a year because I sprained my ankle and didn’t lose weight. It’s very toxic and very silly.”
King says she often spent summers on set with the Grown Ups actor. “I just got lost in all the hustle and bustle,” she explained. “If I ever messed up a take or an arm was in the camera or I was talking, I got in damn trouble.”
“I had started getting tattoos and it was 42 degrees,” she recalls. “I had to wear sweaters because my father was absolutely against tattoos and any form of self-expression.”
The 35-year-old says her childhood experiences influenced the upbringing of her own son, Lucky.
“My dad forgot every single birthday,” she added. “I spent my 18th birthday at a summer school and they brought me cupcakes and when I came home my dad had forgotten. I put every fiber of my life into my son’s birthday because I know what it feels like to be forgotten on his birthday.”
Regarding her current relationship with Schneider, she says: “I don’t want to be associated with him.”
“He’s just not nice. I disagree with a lot of the things he says. You can want someone to change so much, but ultimately you can’t control other people’s actions. You can’t control other people’s feelings. You can only control how you react and what you do with your feelings.”
