Tears in her eyes: Hoda Kotb is speechless when faced with a birthday present from George W. Bush

Hoda Kotb was moved to tears by her 60th birthday gift from Jenna Bush Hager and her famous father.

Bush Hager presented her longtime friend and co-host with a birthday present during yesterday’s live birthday extravaganza at Today Plaza Monday.

“I know how much your girls mean to you,” a tearful Bush Hager explained as she handed a beautifully wrapped gift to an equally tearful Kotb. “I had my father, who has taken up painting, paint your favorite photo of you holding your girls.”

The painting depicts Kotb and her two daughters – Haley, 7, and Hope, 4 – in a park. The West Virginia native holds Hope’s hand as her big sister Haley leads the way. Bush signed the painting with his usual number “43” scrawled in red lettering in the lower right corner – a nod to the fact that he is America’s 43rd president.

“It’s too much! It’s too much!” Bush Hager told the cameras as she and Kotb became increasingly emotional. “We need to watch a video, it’s too much.”

Kotb, who turned 60 on August 9, celebrated her milestone birthday with a special episode of her podcast, “Making Space With Hoda Kotb.” In it, the popular television personality shares how she has experienced life’s greatest gifts in her later years — including motherhood. Kotb looks to the next chapter with her typically positive attitude.

“Some people, when they turn 30, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m 30. It’s over. All my friends are married.’ It’s like, you have to be honest, man,” she said. “You’re on your own journey. You’re on your own train and your blessing comes when it comes. And your blessing comes maybe in your 20s. Maybe in your 30s. Maybe in your 40s. My blessing started – started – in my 50s. That’s when the best ones came.”

Happy birthday, Hoda!
