On the occasion of her upcoming 58th birthday, Halle Berry is focusing on women’s health.

The Catwoman Star, 57, revealed in an interview with Additional TV that she plans to spend her big day advocating for a new bill that would increase public awareness of menopause and provide training and resources for healthcare providers.

“I will be in West Virginia with Senator (Shelley) Capito lobbying for my menopause bill,” she said, referring to the Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women’s Health Act introduced in May.

“I can’t think of a better way to spend my birthday than to fight for all women,” she continued. “I can’t wait to get there.”

Berry said it was important to her to advocate for this issue because she didn’t know much about it when she went through menopause.

“About four years ago, I realized I was in perimenopause, and I thought I was missing it,” she said. “Or at least that’s what I thought – that’s how little I knew about it.”

“I realized that if I knew so little about it, then millions of other women probably didn’t know either, because I pride myself on having the best doctors,” she continued. “I take my health seriously and I didn’t know anything, so that lit a fire in me to help myself, and by helping myself, I know I’m helping millions.”

The Oscar winner stressed that focusing on women’s health will be her “second act,” sharing that her main thought right now is, “How can I change the world for women and get us the healthcare we deserve during this really important time in our lives?”

“It has to change, and I say it will happen now,” she added.

Berry has been very vocal in recent months about her desire to “destigmatize” and remove the “shame” of menopause, she said during a press conference in Washington DC, according to an Associated Press clip.

Her commitment even earned her a place on Time‘s 100 Health list. In an Instagram post, she shared that she “does not take this work lightly. I do it for all the women who feel uninformed or who have been made to feel inferior because of the stage of life they are in.”

But that’s not the only change in Berry’s life. She recently announced that she has adopted two kittens, whom she named “Boots” and “Coco,” after being a “self-proclaimed dog person” for most of her life.

“I just rescued four kittens that I found in my garden three weeks ago,” she said in an interview with Weekly entertainmentand noted in an Instagram post that the other two cats had found a “forever home” elsewhere. “I am a Catwoman through and through because of this experience and these relationships. This experience has changed me.”

She recently celebrated the premiere of her Netflix action comedy with Mark Wahlberg called The Union on Monday, August 12, at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. She arrived at the event wearing a long-sleeved black sheer one-piece dress with floral accents.

The Union will be released on August 16th.
