August 9 is practically a celebration of sorts for Mahesh Babu fans as the actor celebrates turning a year older on this day. In recent years, re-release of the actor’s earlier films has been a trend, with films like Okkadu and Murari delighting the audience with the same enthusiasm and love in 2024.
The actor was seen in the film Guntur Kaaram earlier this year. While the film was criticised on technical and narrative grounds, fans were unanimous in their praise for Mahesh Babu.
Right now, the actor is gearing up for SSMB 29, his biggest project yet. SS Rajamouli, who is fresh off a global success, is all set to take up the project on an unimaginably big and bold scale. The film is all set to hit the screens soon. As much as fans are happy about this news, there is also a small nagging complaint.
Rajamouli is known for working for years on his films. When actors decide to work with him, they don’t take up other projects. Such are the demands that Rajamouli’s story and technical finesse demand. Baahubali took almost half a decade to shoot. Even when Rajamouli promised to complete work on RRR in a year and a half, it didn’t happen. Instead, the project took two more years. Whether it’s the pandemic or the writer’s relentless perfectionism, his stories take years to actually see the light of day and as a result, you won’t see his actors for years.
For Mahesh Babu’s fans, this is a source of bittersweet sorrow. They are definitely happy that he is doing the biggest project with the best director. They are happy that the actor is finally acting in a film that matches his potential. But nobody wants to wait for 4-5 years.
There was a time when Mahesh Babu took a three-year break from the film industry. It was the toughest time for the fans not to see their favourite superstar’s film for such a long time. It will only hurt the fans more if the shooting and release schedules of SSMB 29 take as long as Mahesh Babu did over a decade ago.
Mahesh Babu will not act in any film till SSMB 29 ends. He may not even opt for brand endorsements if Rajamouli wants to keep his looks under wraps. How much longer can fans be satisfied with re-releases of Mahesh Babu’s iconic films of yore? Needless to say, SS Rajamouli currently has commitments at multiple levels and of varying magnitudes. The best gift Mahesh Babu fans can get is that SSMB will release in the next 1.5-2 years without any inglorious delays.
