Finally some good news, because developer Tango Gameworks seems to have survived its closure. The studio responsible for The evil within Series, Ghostwire Tokyo and the critically acclaimed Hi-Fi noise, has now been taken over by PUBG Battlegrounds Publisher Krafton Inc.
As announced in a press release from Krafton, it seems that Tango Gameworks will be working on it. Hi-Fi noise Continuation. The press release states: “As part of this strategic agreement, KRAFTON intends to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks so that the talented team can continue the development of the Hi-Fi noise IP and explore future projects.”
Krafton also confirms that Tango Gameworks’ existing game catalog will not be affected by the change: “There will be no impact on Tango Gameworks’ existing game catalog. The evil within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyoand the original Hi-Fi noise game, and they will remain available wherever they are available today.”
In case you don’t know, Tango Gameworks, like Arkane Austin, was shut down by Microsoft in May of this year. The company cited a “reprioritization of titles and resources” as the reason for this particularly bad decision.
Now that Tango Gameworks has found a new home, however, the reaction on social media has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. John Johanas, Creative Director at Tango Gameworks and Director of Hi-Fi noise, posted on X/Twitter: “We’re back, baby!”
While we don’t know exactly what Tango Gameworks will be working on next, it seems likely that we’ll get this Hi-Fi noise Sequel based on Krafton’s plans to expand the IP. For now, watch this space and collectively breathe a sigh of relief that one of the most talented developers of the last decade and a half is allowed to move on.
