Gifts from the world’s most notorious surface at new auction

Gifts from the modern world’s most vicious killer and America’s biggest crime boss will be auctioned off this week.

Alexander Historical Auctions, the headline-grabbing auctioneer of American and special artifacts from around the world, just announced that it will offer for sale on Friday a pocket pistol given by Chicago crime boss Al Capone to his favorite Cubs baseball player, “Kiki” Cuyler.

Cuyler received the Colt Model 1908 Hammerless semi-automatic pistol in .25 caliber from Capone in 1929. The black and silver receiver and slide are decorated with richly decorated carvings, including the dedication “For Kiki, my favorite boy.”

It also features “Alphonse Capone,” “1929,” and the logo of the Cubs, who lost the World Series to the Philadelphia Athletics that same year.

According to the Maryland-based auction house, the weapon presented to the Hall of Famer is expected to fetch up to $50,000.

The three-day online auction also includes an Art Deco mechanical pencil that Adolf Hitler gave to the father of his young bride Eva Braun.

“A simply incredible personal memento of Adolf Hitler, a four-colour gold mechanical pencil given by Hitler to the father of his lover, Eva Braun, for his birthday in 1944. The beautifully crafted pen has an octagonal barrel decorated with very fine grooves that run the entire length of the pen and many unfinished circles give a very beautiful Art Deco look,” reads Alexander’s description of the pen offered on Thursday.

According to Braun’s sister, Hitler gave the pencil to her father, Mr. Fritz Braun, for his 65th birthday in 1944. In a letter accompanying the piece, Ilse Braun wrote: “The pencil was a birthday present from Adolf Hitler to my father and was presented to him by my sister, Mrs. Eva Hitler, at the Führer’s request.”

The auction house said the proceeds would be between $12,000 and $15,000.

Remarkably, according to auctioneer Bill Panagopulos, Mr. Fritz Braun did not like it when Hitler started dating his daughter, but he changed his mind over time. “He wrote Hitler a letter early on asking him to leave his daughter alone, but Eva intercepted it and destroyed it. After Hitler came to power, Braun realized the benefits of being friends with the Nazis and became a regular visitor to the Berghof. He also became an officer in the German army,” he wrote in the description.

Among the hundreds of other items are one of two “little black books” with names collected by the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a lighter and a monogrammed cigarette pack belonging to former President John F. Kennedy, and a letter from Charles Manson follower Sandra Good referencing her friend Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme’s assassination attempt on former President Gerald Ford.
