Simon Lorenzi and the story behind Soudain Seul (9A) | Video

With the sit start on The Big Island, Simon Lorenzi created the world’s second 2021A boulder on February 9: Soudain Seul. Even though the first ascent of the boulder in Fontainebleau was some time ago, Gilles Charles’ documentation is no less exciting, especially as it provides deep and personal insights into the ascent process.

On February 8, 2021, Simon Lorenzi reported Soudain Seul, the second 9A boulder in the world at the time. The line has since been repeated several times in Fontainebleau, its difficulty level confirmed, but also downgraded again.

This makes it all the more exciting to look back at this first ascent by Simon Lorenzi with some distance and to draw comparisons with Lorenzi’s other 9A ascents such as Alphane in Chironico or Burden of Dreams in Finland, which the filmmaker Gilles Charlier also captured for posterity.
