It’s not every day that a luxury swim brand collaborates with a respected printmaker and textile designer. That’s where the Molly Mahon x Weezie collection comes in, featuring bath towels, hand towels and a shower curtain (and a pillow too, of course!) combining enchanting prints And Plush terry cloth material that transforms dull bathrooms into delightful bathrooms.
The team at Weezie (the company is run by two long-time friends, Atlanta-based Liz Eichholz and Lindsey Johnson) has long had the work of British designers on its mood board, so the designers reached out to Mahon via Instagram. Creative sparks flew.
“There was a real natural affinity between what I was doing and what they were doing,” Mahon tells ELLE DECOR. “We don’t make towels, so I thought: what a nice addition that could enrich our offering!”
As plans for the collaboration began to take shape, Mahon was able to visit Weezie’s flagship store in Atlanta in real life. “After that, I left with real confidence that they would do a great job. They really care about their business,” Mahon says. “I just want to do what I do really, really well, and I see that Weezie has the same ethics in her work… We felt very aligned.”
It’s no wonder, then, that the collection reflects the passion of both the brand and the designer. Details like delicate embroidered flowers, cheerful block prints and scalloped edges exude exactly the kind of whimsy that Mahon wants to convey to her customers with this product line.
“Choosing the Mughal design felt natural,” says Mahon. “This design was inspired by my travels to India. I have a studio in Delhi where we block print our fabrics.”
Ahead of the collection’s launch, the Weezie team flew to Mahon’s home in Suffolk, England, to photograph the products. The resulting photos showcase her homey factor while also showing how Mahon’s signature style – all prints and femininity – is embedded in her daily life.
“It was a dream to be able to photograph the collection in Molly’s house in Suffolk. I had to pinch myself the whole time. It was like being in a fairytale world!” says Mary Shaffer Sealey, Brand Director at Weezie. “She brought us tea and strawberries with cream. It was immediately clear that she was as vibrant, warm and colourful as her collection.”
Sealey says nearly 70 percent of all Weezie orders are custom – meaning most customers take advantage of the option to add monograms to their shopping cart selections. “We have a team of over 30 people who specialize in embroidery. It’s a really special part of our identity and I’m excited to see how it works with (Molly’s collaboration). It really is the icing on the cake if you want it, but I think (the collection) works beautifully on its own,” Sealey says.
“Life is short and I just want my home to feel friendly and welcoming and to be a happy place,” adds Mahon. “I really believe that these little touches, even if it’s just a towel, can make a big difference.”
