It’s that time of year color of the year announcements and color predictions! It’s always exciting to see what’s in store for us in the world of interior design, especially what colors are expected to blow our minds. The winning shade, Encore, is a rich, deep blue with cool undertones and a refreshing take on the timeless navy.

The beautiful color is a big departure from Valspar’s 2024 Color of the Year, Renew Blue, a pastel green-blue minty shade. The decision to move to a deeply saturated color is indicative of where we are in interior design, and it’s definitely a transitional time where we want the best all Aesthetics. According to Sue Kim, color marketing manager at Valspar, “Encore is a color for any space or application. Its atmospheric, deep blue tones mimic both the elusive luxury of Old World design and the futuristic blending of our physical and digital worlds, making it a color that feels simultaneously familiar and unexpected.”

Kim adds, “Encore’s versatility means it can shine on its own through playful applications both indoors and outdoors, such as on wood, patios or concrete pavers.” That’s great, because Encore is unique in that almost any Valspar paint product, including interior, exterior, furniture and stain formulas, can be tinted in this color, adding to its versatility.

Below, the brand reveals all the ways you can experiment with Valspar’s 2025 Color of the Year in your home.

For trims and built-in appliances

Encore can create a beautiful contrast when applied to built-ins and trim, creating a “sandwich effect” in a room that looks fresh and modern. Combining Valspar’s 2025 Color of the Year with a soft white paint on the walls and adding warm, textured decorative accents like the rattan pendant light and wooden planter keeps the room from looking bare.

On furniture

Combining Encore with other complementary shades of blue in a room creates what Kim calls “tonal color harmony.” In her opinion, the base color adds personality when applied to all elements of a room, from the walls to the furniture to the decor, while the textures in a room add a restful tactility. As shown in the bathroom above, Encore adds depth and dimension when applied to furniture. A mix of tones from the same color family is also a fun way to play with color without going overboard.

On cabinets and doors

Two-tone kitchens are very is on trend right now, and you can easily incorporate Encore into a cooking area using this technique; just pair the shade with a complementary color like Sprig of Sage, as shown above. Using Encore as an exterior color for the cabinets and doors, as well as the window trim, is a clever way to anchor a room, and opting for mostly white walls keeps the design from feeling overwhelming.

On floor coverings

As mentioned, you can tint almost any Valspar product in the 2025 Color of the Year, meaning nothing is impossible when it comes to painting projects. Encore looks beautiful and classy when applied to floors, as seen in this garage. And since it’s a fairly dark shade, scuff marks and dirt are easier to hide.
