In Emmerdale spoilers for tonight (Friday, August 9), new arrival John Sugden is stranded in the village… and his presence is clearly felt…
In last night’s episode, Victoria Sugden came face to face with a man she was told might be her half-brother.
Their fateful meeting came after Victoria made some small talk at the funeral of an old friend of Eric Pollard.
But after Pollard’s awkward – and shocking – admission that Victoria and the grieving stranger may be related, John will smooth things over again when viewers get to know him a little better on Friday’s show.

Appearing on Thursday’s Lorraine, John Sugden actor Oliver Farnworth hinted that his character might pose a mystery to some of the villagers.
Looking back on John’s head-turning debut earlier this week, Oliver said: “(John’s) opening move in last night’s episode is pretty strong and as we can see in today’s clip, we learn a lot about him pretty early on.
“But there’s also a really enigmatic side to him. I’ve been filming for two months now and there are a lot of things I can’t talk about. But that’s really just the tip of the iceberg because it’s an absolute rollercoaster ride.
Oliver added: “There’s more to come, there’s more to come!”
Meanwhile, John is expected to cause a stir tonight… but who will be upset? Has he made any enemies yet?
John Sugden and Aaron Dingle currently
Most likely, after their intensive getting-to-know-you phase, which also included an overnight stay in a van before John drove off with Aaron’s things, Aaron Dingle will want to exchange a few words with John at some point!
In Thursday’s episode, the pair clashed again after John had another breakdown. Mack dragged him back to Emmerdale. And finally, John and Aaron hit each other instead of hugging after an unlikely reunion.
But while Victoria was delighted to see John again – even if his joy was somewhat more subdued, despite his willingness to be her guest for the night – the realisation that John is also related by blood to a certain Robert Sugden will no doubt ensure that the atmosphere between the new Sugden on the block and Aaron remains lively…
