What is fridgescaping, the popular trend of decorating food in the refrigerator?

A unique trend has emerged in the home decor space over the past few years. A new trend has taken Instagram and TikTok by storm, with enthusiasts sharing their beautifully curated refrigerator interiors with neatly arranged food, color-coordinated containers, and artistic touches.

The Rise of Fridgescaping

The latest trend in fridge decor is all about the contents, and that’s usually not food. Antique butter dishes can be paired with flowers, framed pictures, or even eye cream to create an eye-catching arrangement in #fridgescaping videos on TikTok and Instagram. This trend focuses on the inside of the fridge, transforming it into an aesthetically pleasing and organized space.

The rise of fridgescaping can be attributed to several factors. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok have provided a space for individuals to showcase their creativity and inspire others with their unique fridge designs. As a result, fridgescaping has become a way for people to express their personality and style. People decorate their fridges with flowers, picture frames, mirrors, jewelry boxes, and even Bridgerton-themed items. The trend is to find more visually appealing ways to display your food and bring non-practical items into the fridge area to create small tableaux.

Lynzi Judish, who lives in New York’s Hudson Valley, is a content creator specializing in home decor. She started sharing refrigerator-themed content in May, but her “Bridgerton”-inspired refrigerator design, which she calls “Fridgerton,” went viral, garnering 1.1 million views.

Is it practical?

Fridgescaping is visually appealing, but if you need to use all the space in your refrigerator for food and supplies, it’s not the most practical option.

For example, while it may seem nice, storing berries in an open bowl is not the best way to extend their shelf life. Instagram is not reality and it shouldn’t be, just like everything else.

At the same time, the fridgescaping trend reflects a broader shift towards conscious living and the appreciation of beauty in everyday life. It responds to this desire for creativity and self-expression and offers a unique opportunity to transform a functional space into a work of art.

Although the trend borrows design aspects from other rooms in your home, keep in mind that certain vintage treasures may not be suitable for storing food. In short, if you store fruits and vegetables in drawers, you may be shortening their shelf life. If you store food outside next to flowers or other non-food items, there’s always the possibility of contamination.

The basis can be to arrange food in a logical and easily accessible way – clear containers, labeled jars and stackable containers to keep food organized and easy to find.

So would you give fridgescaping a try?
