Where were you on August 11, 1999? If you lived in the state of Utah, you can probably remember that day like it was yesterday! It was a normal Wednesday afternoon in downtown Salt Lake City. Suddenly, a storm appeared in the sky. At noon, no one had any idea of ​​an approaching storm, and just before 1:00 p.m., the deadly tornado hit Salt Lake City. The twister lasted about 10 minutes and caused the most damage near the Delta Center on the corner of 300 West and South Temple.

THE PATH OF THE TORNADO:

The tornado began on the west side of I-15, crossed the freeway, struck the Delta Center, struck an International Outdoor Retailers Convention, and moved toward the Salt Lake City Temple. Shockingly, it missed the Temple and moved north toward the Capitol, continuing its destruction toward the Avenues.

THE DAMAGE:

In the space of 10 minutes, this tornado caused over $170,000,000 in damage, ripped roofs off homes, uprooted between 300 and 500 trees, injured over 80 people, and killed one man, Allen Crandy. Crandy was working as a supervisor at the outdoor convention when the tornado passed through.
